Mayor of Rogers, AR
Greg Hines was sworn in as the 40th Mayor of Rogers on January 1, 2011. Greg attended Rogers Public Schools and the University of Arkansas. In 1998, he was elected as the youngest member in history to the Rogers City Council where he served for 12 years, prior to becoming mayor. Hines has deep roots in the community as a fourth generation Arkansas native and has dedicated many years of service to the people of Rogers. He has had successful careers as a small business owner and in government, holding various positions in both the private and public sectors.
Prior to being elected Mayor of Rogers, Greg spent 10 years in law enforcement and served as the lead investigator in some of the most high profile crimes in Benton County. He was awarded the ‘Investigator of the Year’ honor from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, the ‘STEP Award for Outstanding DWI Enforcement’ as a uniformed patrol officer, and many additional service commendations. Greg served as the Director of Public Safety for Benton County. In this role, he oversaw the Road Department, Veterans Affairs, the Juvenile Detention Center, and the Community Service Program. He managed over 100 county employees and a taxpayer funded budget of $10.4 million dollars.
Since taking office in 2011, Rogers citizens have passed two bond elections. The first in 2011, raised $135 million for the city. Greg oversaw the construction or renovation of 33 completed projects in addition to 14 ongoing projects. The 2011 bond issue alone has provided the residents of Rogers with a modern aquatic park, sports complex, improved streets, the renovation of historic Lake Atalanta, and state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and apparatus for the Fire and Police departments. This August 2018, Rogers citizens passed another bond issuance for an additional $240 million. Both elections were passed with overwhelming support from citizens, with 80% voting in favor in 2011 and 75% in 2018.
Under his leadership, the Police Department has become one of the best equipped in the state. The Fire Department is constructing one new station and relocated another, improved its ISO rating from class 3 to class 1, and received accreditation for its Fire and EMS services. Looking to the future, Greg has instituted an innovative new Comprehensive Growth Map and plan for the city of Rogers that will minimize future sprawl through encouraging new growth and development at neighborhood and commercial centers dispersed throughout the city. This forward vision and effective management of taxpayer resources has paid off. Rogers has had $500 million in private capital investment since 2011. In September 2018, MONEY ranked the City of Rogers as the 14th ‘Best Place to Live’ in the country.
